Disillusion with Current fashion trends

So as any designer working on collection project would do, I have been trawling through the images of Fashion week to get a sense of whats to come. And Athough there were many stunning items shown by the likes of Dior and Zuhair Murad, I cant help but feel disillusioned by current trends.

Always a fan of colour, I am glad to se Orange, green and Blue swing into spring fashion, but Im just not getting the cuts and silhouettes which im seeing.

Everything has gone one of 2 ways: Fun and a bit nuts (girly, textured, OTT) or down right drab with beige blazers, straight trousers, leggings and un-flattering dress shapes. Im seeing a bit too much yellow out there and sequins too. Although yellow is good for darker skin tones, where does that leave us pasty types? and sparkles should be reserved more for winter and the festive season, mixing high shine with bright color is just too much.

I know that many of you out there think that fashion should be fun and expressive, and I agree, but what i have seen at most of the shows is a lack of imagination and a slightly lost expression. There should be a serious edge to fashion otherwise the lines get too blurred and end up giving me the yawns.

However in the spirit of actually inspiring you, I have picked out some of the best looks for this season.

Although Im not necessarily digging the Versace Yellow or the Gaultier grey, The corsets are just fab. Teamed with fitted shorts or worn in a Gothic tone of red gives just enough maturity to surpass the test of time.

Oscar De la Renta got it right with these stunning separates, teaming a ball gown Silhouette with a cropped jumper is refreshing, young and modern without loosing all sense of style and fun. Also the mix of texture here is beautiful without the need for lots of jazzy sequins. Simplicity at its best!

Christian Siriano also kept his evening wear chic yet young without crossing the boundaries of taste. thumbs up from me!

Always the fan of Body-con and of course leather: Nicole miller got the right idea with this neon and leather sportswear dress. Neither utilitarian nor overly fussy, Its chic, young & sexy yet classic.

I was surprised to find myself intrigued by the Cynthia Rowley collection, as im not a great fan of fussy prints, but this one caught my eye. Set against black this oriental style print can be worn day or night, the little peplum and cinched waist gives a nod to the 40s trend while not forcing the wearer to stick to a 40s theme.

another trend that I am interested by is the Marine classic concocted by Coco Chanel herself for which I recently created a 2012 moodboard.
