Digital Media: Why Mandela Will Live on Forever

Posted on the 13 December 2013 by Brawilly @therealbrawilly

Nelson Mandela is a true icon in the hearts of not only South Africans but the hearts of people all over the world. He has inspired billions of people and his name is probably the biggest brand in the world. As big as the Mandela brand is, preserving it is key for future generations to use it as a reference point for peace, justice and equality.

All he has done has been captured in films, documentaries, books, on-line media and many more platforms that will ensure he is remembered and his teachings can go on. However, the one platform that has become imperative in the world of technology is digital media; this is basically digital archiving on cloud systems and the general web.

A good example of this digital archiving is the Nelson Mandela center of memory created by tech giant, Google. The aim is to, ” locate, document, digitise, and provide access to all archival materials related to Nelson Mandela. This is a work in progress. Here is a selection of materials arranged in exhibits for your enjoyment.”

The Nelson Mandela Digital Archive Project is one of many ways that information is stored so that it can be enjoyed anywhere, any time and by anyone. This ensures that the spirit of Mandela lives on and that technology carries him through history and into the future. RIP Madiba, you will be missed.
