Diet Chef - Week 1

By Catty212
As you'll know from my Diet Chef introduction post, I've recently started the Diet Chef diet. I was kindly sent 4 weeks worth of food in return for an honest review about my experience. As my first week is over, I thought I'd share my experience of my first week, and of course my weightloss.

I was both intrigued and excited prior to starting the diet. I'd heard good things about the diet plan and had frequently seen tasty looking pictures across instagram pages. Saying that, I wasn't too sure what to expect. I wasn't sure how I'd cope with small portions and all the pictures I'd seen of the Diet Chef meals looked rather tasty. Surely diet food, couldn't taste that great?!

With Diet Chef you can have three meals and 1 snack each day, you supplement this with the recommended 5 daily portions of fruit and vegetables and 2 dairy products, Diet Chef recommends dairy items such as 30g of cheese or 250ml of skimmed or semi skimmed milk. During my first week of Diet Chef I've had the odd yogurt but mainly had milk and cheese as my additional dairy items. I use the milk in coffee and on my breakfast cereal and the cheese males a lovely topping to quite a few of the meals, particularly the lasagne and the cottage pie.

One of the things I have really appreciated about Diet Chef this week is the pre prepared portion sizes. It's refreshing to know I don't have to weigh things out, every meal comes in it's own pack and is either ready to eat or very easy to make, with minimal fuss.

Each product is labelled as breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack, so decision making is simple - choose one item from each group and add your extra fruit, vegetables and carbohydrates.

Diet Chef - week 1
I found the first week of the diet much easier than I'd expected. There wasn't one item of food that I disliked. Every one was tasty and simple to make. The first couple of days I did have some hunger pangs but they were easily remedied with an apple or banana.

Despite the initial shock of the small cereal portions I was impressed with the breakfasts. The Chocolate soft cookie is absolutely amazing, I had no idea I'd be able to have a cookie for breakfast! I've also really enjoyed the different granola and muesli bars, they're great for on the run.

I went a little soup wild when I placed my order. I probably ordered a few too many, but they have gone down well. All the ones I've tried so far have been nice. My favourites have been the curried pumpkin and the spicy tomato and beef.
The protein bars are also really tasty. They're a meal replacement bar, but are actually really enjoyable and great for lunch in the car or a quick meal when it's busy at work.

The dinners have been fantastic! I can't believe how tasty and filling they've been. My favourites have been the curries and the sweet and sour chicken. They're easily padded out with a little extra veg or brown rice.

The snack range is great, there's something for everyone. I preferred the more savoury snacks, the Sore Cream and Chive pretzels are my absolute favourites! I could eat them all day. I was pleasantly surprised that the snacks are all quite generously sized, so they're actually quite filling.

What I've enjoyed this week -
  • Being able to play ahead has kept me blinkered and reduced the urge to snack and change my mind about meals.
  • The fantastic range of food and snacks.
  • Quick and simple meals which are ready in minutes.
So, the bit you've been waiting for? The weigh in ...

This week has been absolutely fantastic for me. I've lost a whopping 13lbs! I got at the end of day 9 rather than day 7 due to work restrictions, but 13lbs in 9 days is a wonderful achievement. I'm so pleased.I don't imagine my future weight loss will be quite as dramatic but I'm so pleased so far! I still have around 4 stone to lose but my first week as has totally inspired me to keep going.
