The Waterboy

I got such a chuckle out of an email I received yesterday afternoon.  In the title it asked ‘Are you watching Fools ball today?’  It gave me a chuckle because I immediately thought about the movie The Waterboy as soon as I saw that.

Remember that movie?  It is an Adam Sandler movie from 1998.  Adam Sandler’s character was the waterboy, but it turned out he was actually a really great football player.  However, his mother (Kathy Bates) did not want him playing football.  Or as she referred to it, Foolsball.

It’s really a very funny movie.  Now I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite movie, but it does bring me back to my college days every time I see it or hear about it.

The Waterboy Was Filmed At My College

You see when I was in my Freshman year of college there was a lot of buzz going around about a movie that was being recorded on campus.  A few of my classmates were trying to get in to be extras.  One Saturday portions of the campus were overrun by camera crews.

The infamous classroom scene from The Waterboy was filmed in the very classroom which I took my religious studies class in my Freshman year of college.  I recognize some of the faces of the people sitting in that classroom as I went to college with them.

I did not get to meet Adam Sandler or even see him for that matter.  But none the less it’s still neat to know that I was in that very classroom where Adam Sandler tackled his teacher, or as he called him Colonel Sanders.  It’s kind of neat knowing that I stepped foot on what was used as a movie set.  I set in the very chair that could have been sat in by Adam Sandler.

Here it is in case you want to see what I’m talking about:

I Know It Sounds Silly

These are just part of the things that make me who I am. Just like I will forever rave about the Def Leppard concert where Joe Elliot jumped off the stage and came out into the audience and I was a few feet from touching him.  Just like the Tiffany concerts I went to as a child where my dad held me up on his shoulders so I could see better.  Just like the Dave Matthews concert that I got to attend on my college campus for free where I was practically right up against the stage.

I had so many wonderful experiences and opportunities in my lifetime. Attending Florida Southern college for two years was a great time in my life with so many very fond memories.  So seeing even a glimpse of a classroom from college floods me with great memories.  And when someone brings up that movie it brings it all back and makes me happy.

It’s funny the things that can bring back memories and make you all sorts of sentimental.

Is there something that brings back memories of a good time in your life?
