In honor of New York Fashion Week 2015, I have decided to share with you one of my favorite designers that has ever graced the New York Fashion runway...Reem Acra!
"Reem Acra Bridal Spring/Summer 2015"Both of the beautiful pictures are photographed byAbby RossI have been following Reem Acra ever since I watched a snippit of her 2014 show thanks to the ever-so wonderful Claire Marshall (video here). I was really interested in her because one of my best-friends is named Reem, which means baby deer in Arabic.
Acra was born at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, where her parents both worked...Acra began to seriously consider fashion in her late teens, after being complimented on one of her own dresses by a woman who encouraged her to join the fashion club at the American University in Beirut, where she was a student. She held a fashion show in June 1982 that attracted 2,000 people..... (Wikepedia, the real mvp)Reem Acra is known for beautiful bridal gowns, but she also started a ready-wear collection in the past few years. All theses dresses have very beautiful details that really make her designs stand out.
I was really interested in her bridal collection at first because of her use of lace and flowers in the 2015 Bridal Collection. Lace is really common among bridal gowns, but the lace she uses it is like a mix of modern and vintage. None of the lace she uses is overwhelming on the gown. The gowns in this collection has a really ethereal vibe and it creates a really soft look.
I also enjoyed the contrast between her Pre-Fall and Bridal Collection because The Pre-Fall used vibrant reds, royal blue, black, gold, and white. Which created a 180 degree effect compared to the bridal gowns. These are my favorite dresses from the collection.
Reem Acra is definitely has taken a place on my favorite designers list. I am really excited to see her new collection this week. She presented her new collection at six on Feb.16. I have not seen it yet because this post is written in advance. Anyways, one day I will really like to attend one of her shows at NYFW. FW lasts from the 11-19th and the 20th is my birthday, which is a great way to end the week. If I ever do go to one of her shows, then I will be sure to take you with me. We can enjoy the experience together ^_^
