Deerfield Beach Restaurant: Charm City Burger

By Take A Bite Out Of Boca @shaywiz

To all my south Florida readers, have you been to Charm City Burger? I’m sure you have.

Guys, I’m super late to the game with this one. Sorry. You have to give me some slack, since I’m not a red-meat eater, but it’s no excuse for taking so long to go for either the Ahi tuna or the veggie burger. The owners are also responsible for Rebel House in Boca, as well as El Jefe Luchador in Deerfield Beach. I haven’t been to the Mexican place, but I do love the food at Rebel.Sit-down service sucks – anyone who has been there will tell you that. I don’t mean to bash the place, but it’s just a fact. You’ll love the food and the cocktails, and especially the atmosphere and décor, but the only way you will dine happily and leave satisfied is if you are lucky enough to grab a seat at the bar.
Anyway, I’m getting away from myself – the food at Rebel is amazing, so obviously I would assume both of the owner’s other restaurants would be just as impressive. People have been yelling at me left and right to go to Charm City. “BUT I DON’T EAT BURGERS!” I would always yell back. And then I get the speech about how they have more than just the traditional beef burgers. There’s chicken, there’s turkey, there’s a veggie burger, and there’s the best thing of all: the Ahi tuna burger. Sesame-chili spiced with wasabi aioli and a sweet soy-lime glaze. Um. Yes please.

And the tater tots. Ohhhh, the tater tots. Crispy, crunchy outside and warm, soft potato-y inside. I don’t usually go for tater tots. They just have never appealed to me, but my roommates insisted that these are way better than the fries and a complete, utter must-have. So I obliged. Thank God. I would have missed out on trying the most delicious fried food of my life. I can’t overdo it with fried foods; my stomach usually hates me for the rest of the night and well into the next day. So if I’m going to indulge, it had better be worth the agony I’ll feel later on. These tater tots were damn well worth it.

We covered all the bases with our burgers. There was quite a variety on the table. Me with my tuna, Lauren with the veggie, Amy with the lamb, Emma with beef, and Foodie with beef…and onion rings…and chicken wings. And more tater tots than we knew what to do with…except eat. Which we did. Every last one of them. I tried a bite of Lauren’s veggie burger, packed with black beans, a blend of mushrooms and herbs, and really liked it. I’ll probably get that the next time I go. Add a little bit of good cheese, maybe some aged gouda or something warm and gooey and I’m totally sold. However, if I ate lamb, the lamb would have been my second choice, topped with Greek salad slaw, garlic tatziki and soooo much feta. That would make an excellent turkey or chicken burger too.
Hmm…I might have to make a suggestion.
