I just delved into the world of Deborah Lippmann Nail Polishes and, just as I was afraid of, I think I am in love! The first polish I have tried is “Sweet Dreams” from the Limited Edition Shades of Summer Collection. It is described on the Deborah Lippmann website as a 3D Holographic Candy Pink. I would say that is a fairly accurate description, although I am not really sure I would call it holographic. It is more of a color-shifting gold super-heavily fleck-filled candy pink that gives a 3D effect, if that makes any sense.
The polish went on like a dream. I was amazed by how much
flakey “holographic” goodness was crammed into the polish! And the color was
nearly perfect in only one coat! I added a second just to ensure it was even
and to intensify the glittery pinkness a bit more. The polish dried quickly,
much more so than any other polish I can think of. The finish is quite smooth,
especially given all the flakes of light-reflective particles embedded in the
base. The polishes also do not contain toluene, formaldehyde, DBP or camphor
and they are not tested on animals. No complaints what-so-ever about the
formula. In fact, I was quite impressed!
Of course I cannot complete this without commenting on how beautiful the bottle itself is! It really is a beautiful and unique design that is also quite practical. It is basically a really fancy cube which makes it sit wonderfully next to other similar bottles without wasting space. It also provides a nice, sturdy base that keeps the polish for tipping over while using it…well, I’m sure it can tip over, but it seems a lot less likely. I have to admit, a large part of my interest in Deborah Lippmann polishes was due to the bottle shape, but if other shades are similar to “Sweet Dreams”, the formula itself is just as elegant as the bottle! The brush is relatively standard – thin and round – which I find one of the easier brush shapes to use. The handle of the brush fits nicely in the hand and seems to give good control for precise strokes. All in all, not only beautiful packaging, but practical too!
