Dead Man Talking by Roddy Doyle

By Pamelascott

Pat had been best friends with Joe Murphy since they were kids. But years ago they had a fight. A big one and they haven't spoken since - till the day before Joe's funeral.

What? On the day before his funeral Joe would be dead, wouldn't he?

Yes, he would...

I've read a few books by Doyle and have mixed feelings about his work. I've really enjoyed some of his stuff yet other writing ( The Van) left me cold. I had reservations about this short little book. I needn't have worried. Dead Man Talking is a great piece of writing; funny, wry, touching with shades of light and dark. It was a delight to read. The book has a dead-pan quality to it which is delightful at times.
