Osgood, Indiana: Damm Theater

Osgood, Indiana: Damm Theater

little Indiana was surprised when friendly Ripley County tourism pro Katherine Taul turned to her and asked, “Do you want to see the Damm Theater?”

Then she grinned. Oh. That kind of Damm!

Osgood, Indiana: Damm Theater

The Damm Theater is the joke that never gets old. It happens to be the last name of the Damm family–the original owner and German Immigrant Louis Damm.

Back in the day, trains were a frequent site in Osgood, Indiana. Travelers would stay overnight in the town hotel and catch a movie at the Damm Theater.

The Osgood theater could hold 400 folks! From 1922 to 1953, the whole Damm family ran the theater. It passed off into the hands of his children. The last I heard, it is owned by a Damm family  member today!

From the outside, as you can see, it’s pretty neat! I’ve heard, however, that the inside unfortunately did not keep the original fixtures and has been completely redone.

Even so, is that a fun photo opp in this small Indiana town or what?
