Gujarati Dal Dhokli

 

Dal dhokli is a Gujarati delicacy which is a one dish meal. Made with lentils and whole wheat, it is easy to prepare and is delicious. It is like a homemade pasta in lentils gravy. They are stomach filling and nutrisious at the same time. Now that the winter is aproaching this can make a satisfying and wholesome dinner meal packed with protein.

Ingredients: -
For Dhokli

  • Whole wheat flour (atta) dough 3/4 cup
  • Gram flour / besan 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 1tbsp
  • Carrom seeds / ajwain 1/2 tsp (optional)

For Dal

  • Split pigeon pea / toor dal / arhar dal 1/2 cup
  • Peanuts 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Amchur powder / dried mango powder or tamarind paste 1tbsp
  • Jaggery / gur 4 tsp
  • Ghee 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Dry red chillies 2
  • Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger crushed 1 tsp
  • Garlic crushed 2-3 cloves
  • Curry leaves 5-6
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Salt to taste

Gujarati Dal Dhokli

Method :-

  • Mix all the ingreadents for dhokhli and knead in firm dough.
  • Divide the dough in three equal parts and roll into a chapati.
  • If you will rool it thin you won’t be able to drop them in the dal and when rolled thick, it will take more time to cook.
  • cut the dhokli in diamond shape and keep aside.
  • Cook the dal in a pressure cooker with some water, salt and tumeric powder until it get mushy .
  • Add more water, peanuts, jaggery, ginger, garlic, amchur powderand cook in low flame for 5 mins
  • drop the prepred dhoklis and cook for 15-20 min more in low flame.
  • Take a pan and add oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida red chillies and curry leaves add this tarka, ghee and corriander leaves to the dal dhokli before serving.
