Culture Night - 20th September 2013

By Thedublindiary @TheDublinDiary
The eighth year of Culture Night is almost upon us! If you don't know what Culture Night is I have to ask, where have you been? Seriously though, it's one of the biggest cultural events of the year with hundreds of the city's institutions throwing their doors open for the evening and it's all free of charge. Some places are well known, others are hidden away little gems and others are only going to "pop-up" for Culture Night. To read about what I got up to for Culture Night 2012 click here.

So what are the plans for this year? There are a few things that look good to me. First and foremost I have to get out to the Pearse Museum in St Enda's Park. This museum was recently highlighted to me by fellow blogger Ciaran Behan and I've wanted to go ever since, what better night than Culture Night! Other goodies that I want to check out are the guided tours of Marsh's Library and also the undercroft and state apartments of Dublin Castle. The BAI will be transformed into a pop-up museum by Pat Herbert and the staff from the Hurdy Gurdy in Howth. They'll be sharing some special pieces of radio history, definitely one to put on the list! Finally if I still have some time left I'll probably head over to Trinity and have a look at the Book of Kells, mainly because I love the Long Room and for the rest of the year a visit comes with a hefty price tag!

The beautiful Glasnevin Cemetery on Culture Night last year. The cemetery is also participating this year.

Some food and drink decisions will have to be made to fit in around all the events, in previous years I've been in high spirits and cocktails have been the order of the day! The Liquor Rooms opened recently and I was only able to stay for one quick drink at the launch so I might investigate there further! In general Dublin on Culture Night is buzzing with people, it's a great evening to be in the city watching individuals, families and friends enjoying a night out and having fun. I'd urge everyone to check it out at least once.
