Hello!  I’m super excited to be sharing my project with you today and joining in with the Craft Attitude Mother’s Day Blog Hop.  Thanks so much for inviting me, Jonathan FongCraft Attitude has a versatile product that can be used in so many ways.  I decided to use mine on a mixed media piece and am so thrilled with how it came out.

I started with Craft Attitude’s Wood Attitude.  I love that they create different packages, but the cool thing is that the film is all the same whether it is Wood Attitude, Shoe Attitude, or Jewelry Attitude.  Even though I started with a wood panel from Walnut Hollow, I knew I’d be adding paper, texture, and acrylic paint to my project and wasn’t worried if the Craft Attitude film would work as I knew it would.

I used some stash papers, book papers and 7Gypsies tissue paper to create a background collage.  See the common bird thing happening?

:-)
I wanted to work with birds because of something my mother told me recently.  My Mom is handicapped and is housebound most of the time.  During a cool day a few weeks ago, she made mention that she was able to open the house for the day and not only the sunshine and fresh air, but the sounds of birds chirping and singing truly lifted her spirits.  I know I love when I wake up to birds singing out my bedroom window too.

Then I started adding paint using DecoArt’s new Fluid Acryclics.  I am loving these paints.  As an artist, I love that they are basic colors that I can custom mix.  Being fluid acrylics, a little goes a long way and they are super pigmented for fluids.  Love these.

After a few layers of DecoArt Fluid acrylic paint, I used a stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop to add some texture with modeling paste.

More layers of colors with DecoArt Fluid Acrylics.

And even more color and layers, this time really focusing on painting on, blending, and taking off some paint to reveal various layers underneath.  Another thing I found using the DecoArt Fluid Acrylics is they dry super fast.  This can be good if you understand that when working with it.

I found the perfect quote for my bird themed project.  I used Microsoft Word to edit the quote to the font and size I wanted.  When printing, make sure to change printer properties to print a mirrored image on your Craft Attitude film.  Always print a test copy on regular copy paper first.  Then print your image or text (mirrored image) on Craft Attitude film and allow to dry for a few hours to make sure ink is set.

I carefully trimmed excess film from my quote and then sprayed the film with a spray adhesive before applying directly to my mixed media panel.  I used a Princeton Catalyst silicone wedge blade to burnish the film to my panel.  Even though the panel was textured, the film still burnished on beautifully and disappeared into the panel.

A little more custom mixed paint to decorate two pieces of UmWow Studio chipboard pieces and my piece is complete.
