In a recent interview with The Standard, Courtney Love didn’t hold back her opinions on fellow musicians. In 2021, the 59-year-old American singer found herself in an online feud with Olivia Rodrigo.
Now, the former Hole singer has singled out some of today’s most prominent female artists, including Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Lana Del Rey, and Madonna.
Taking aim at Taylor Swift’s enduring legacy, Courtney had some provocative words for Swifties everywhere. She deemed the fourteen-time Grammy winner ‘boring.’
According to Courtney, “Taylor isn’t significant. She may provide a safe haven for girls, and she might be today’s Madonna, but she lacks intrigue as an artist.”
Despite acknowledging Madonna’s success, Courtney made it clear she’s not a fan of the “Queen of Pop.” “I don’t like her, and she doesn’t like me,” she bluntly stated.
Furthermore, Courtney expressed her disapproval of Lana Del Rey. She recalled her admiration for Lana until she covered a John Denver song, after which her opinion soured. “I used to think she was fantastic until ‘Take Me Home Country Roads.’ During the recording of my latest album, I had to stop listening to her as she was too much of an influence,” Courtney revealed.
Courtney didn’t spare Beyoncé either, despite recognizing the significance of her album “Cowboy Carter” for black women entering traditionally white spaces. “While I appreciate the symbolism behind Beyoncé’s country songs, I simply don’t enjoy her music,” Courtney admitted.
In an industry where musicians often publicly praise each other, particularly women, Courtney Love took a different approach, criticizing the entire cohort without hesitation.
According to her, “Nowadays, every successful woman is replicated, resulting in an oversaturation of music. It’s all becoming homogeneous. Play something on Spotify, and you’re bombarded with indistinguishable content.”
