24-Hour Shift Rate:  $10.20 – $13.89
Hourly rate based on 24-Hour shift; overtime pay after 40 hours; most assignments are 56-hour work-weeks.

AMBULANCE_OPERATOR_BANNER

The San Bernardino County Fire Department is accepting applications for Ambulance Operator – EMT.  This is a full-time, non-represented position with excellent benefits; overtime eligible.  

Under the direction of the assigned Captain or Supervisor, these positions are responsible for operating an ambulance responding to medical aid calls, providing basic medical care to the ill and injured, and providing patient transport services.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Health and Physical Condition: Persons seeking appointment to this classification must meet the safety, health, and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties established by the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

Travel/Driver License: Travel within and outside of the County may be required. A valid California Class C Driver License and proof of automobile liability insurance must be provided at the time of hire and maintained throughout employment.

CPR Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid CPR card.

ICEMA Emergency Medical Technician Certification: Must obtain ICEMA EMT accreditation by the end of orientation, and maintain throughout employment. Newly hired EMTs who are not ICEMA-accredited must successfully complete the ICEMA accreditation process by the end of orientation or will be terminated. The Department will assist with the process; however, the candidate is responsible for obtaining ICEMA accreditation. Information may be found at www.ICEMA.net regarding the requirements for accreditation.

Work Location: Applicants must be willing to work anywhere within San Bernardino County. Positions will primarily be located at County Fire Stations. All new employees must adhere to the provisions of the County Fire and Special Districts Dress Code, which prohibits visible tattoos.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
  1. Possess and maintain a valid Class “C” State of California Driver License (CDL).
  2. Possess and maintain a valid CPR Card.
  3. Possess and maintain an EMT1 certification or greater.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The department seeks candidates with excellent interpersonal skills who are able to deal effectively with persons who are ill/injured and under duress.  Candidates must be able to remain calm under pressure, work well in a team environment, and maintain a high level of integrity.
SELECTION PROCESS
A written examination will be administered in September/October 2016.  The written examination will consist of an evaluation of knowledge and skills on the following topics:
  • Rescue & Emergency Care/First Aid/EMT Skills
  • Safety
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Interpersonal Relations
The highest scoring applicants from the written examination may be invited to a department selection interview. Applicants invited to the written examination will be notified of the test date, time, and location approximately one (1) week prior to the test date.  Applicants scheduled for the written examination must show photo identification or equivalent.
