Company Holding Webinar On New gTLDs PR Is Full Of Errors: Google Owns .Home?

Posted on the 11 July 2014 by Worldwide @thedomains

CMSWire and ICF International are holding a one hour Webinar on Tuesday, July 22nd at 10:30am PDT/1:30pm EDT and put out a Press Release to get people to sign up for it.

The problem is the PR is full of statements which are simply wrong

The headline of the PR reads:

“Google Enters Domain Market with .home, .blog and .hotel”

Well as those that follow new gTLD’s know all applications for .home were killed off almost a year ago on the basis of string confusion.

Strike 1

As far as the new gTLD .Hotel,  Google didn’t apply for it.

Strike 2

.Blog was applied for by .Google but its only 1 of 8 applicants and the extension is in contention and no one knows who will actually get the string.

Strike 3

And that is just the headline.

The PR goes on to say:

“Up to 1400 new gTLDs will be available, not counting brand-based ones like .volkswagen. ”

Well the maximum number of new gTLD’s would have been just over 1,400 but that would be counting not excluding the brand applications.

However a number of .Brand application and other apps have been withdrawn pushing that number under 1,400.

he PR then goes out to misquote Ray King of .wiki and .ink as saying:

“You can generalize that neither [.wiki or .ink] will be one of the biggest TLDs because strings like .art, .music and .blog all received around 100 applications or more”

Sounds like the companies holding the seminar better start hitting the books before July 22nd.
