The Reason I Dressed
So I mentioned yesterday that I was at a travel conference and that I met a lot of very interesting people who helped me realize even more that I am a “lifestyle” blogger.
Can I be honest and say that one of the MAIN REASONS that I really wanted to go to a conference was to have a reason to wear heels and a few of my pretty formal clothes.
There I said it.
It’s true.
My relationship with heels is such that I wore them for the entire first day of the conference, got this photo, and then slipped back into my super comfortable zebra printed, cavallino leather loafers for the remainder of the trade show.
What I Wore B & W
One of the hardest things about staying home (even when you work from home) is no longer having that excuse to buy *nice* things for yourself….especially at full price. I LOVE NICE THINGS. And I have granted myself permission to buy myself what I want as long as it doesn’t go over my monthly budget.
This Liu Jo striped knit pullover was a fantastic buy. Regularly priced in the store it was 180 EURO ($227 US or 143£), I’m happy to say that I got it on sale for 30 euro, and it was worth every penny! Completely hand knit, I feel totally “mature chic” whenever I wear it. Technically the buttons go down the back, but I also like wearing it open, over my shoulders with the top button done up.
Carpe Diem
I have no idea where to buy this cardigan, it may very well be from two or three seasons ago and nothing I could find online was close to it in texture, craftsmanship and value. So instead of showing you a bunch of “similar” items, let me take the opportunity to encourage you to SEIZE THE DAY. Or in this case SEIZE THE DEAL.
Too often we don’t buy that good quality item, even when it is on sale and I’m not sure why. My fashion philosophy really involves buying less and buying better, which doesn’t mean spending a lot! Some of my favourite items have been bought used for under 20 euro (and sometimes for 1 euro), but are either made by hand, unique or very high quality.
I’m going through a phase where I am investing in myself, take my new glasses. They are Marc by Marc Jacobs and I got a great deal on the frames (10 euro) and only had to pay for the lenses. I felt so guilty about buying them, but I love the way they look, so I wear my glasses more and therefore have fewer headaches!
My belt is of my own design! Created for my husband’s artisan belt company in black and white python.
Probably one of my most daring accessories is my grey hair! I haven’t permanently dyed my hair in YEARS (like 15 years!), and the last time I even used a color wash on it was months ago. I need to come up with a hair plan!! If you haven’t heard of a hair plan, check out this hilarious and very accurate post on Mums Days about it! I guess I have somewhat of a plan, I need something easy, fast and relatively healthy. Do you cover your grey? After meeting this super stylish mom I’m now pining for bright red hair!
