Just a couple of days ago, the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg officially announced their latest achievement of 1 billion monthly active users on the world’s largest social network. It’s truly an amazing achievement for a social network to have the attention of 1 billion people from around the world. In fact, having 6 more billion will allow them to conquer the world. But, can they increase this number? Will they survive the social battle?
In my personal experience, I don’t think Facebook is going to survive much long. Day by day it’s turning out to be just like Myspace. According to a recent study conducted in the US, 35% of the Facebook users have admitted that they are starting to spend less and less time on the social network. And there are actually several reasons for them to dislike Facebook.
One of the main reasons you should consider is that people are getting old and starts to realize how immature this social network really is. I know this because the same thing happened to me. I admit that sharing meme’s, funny photos and lame status updates were really fun for a while. But now things are really getting boring on Facebook. There’s nothing new. I’m even considering deactivating my account.
I still remember how Facebook connected me with thousands of interesting people from around the world. Back then, Facebook was the coolest social network we had. But now things are different, there are much more advanced websites out there for contacting people, send free text messages, video chatting and playing free online games. So, unless Mark Zuckerberg come up with a new plan, something other than earning money, Facebook will lose their 1 billion users by the end of next year.
Social networking is still alive. But the competition is too high. And Facebook is not doing a great job competing Maybe they are too confident about their position or maybe they are making enough money not to worry about it. Either way they are heading for a big fall in the future because other social networks are gaining on Facebook very fast.
Only question we have now is, who will take over the throne from Facebook? Google+, Twitter, Tumblr or Pinterest? We’ll find out soon enough.
