Can All Congolese and Rwandans Dead Through Genocides Get Justice and Be Honoured?

Explaining prevailing situation to the general public

We call for an acknowledgement of all genocides perpetrated against Congolese, Hutu, Acholi and Baganda by presidents Joweri Museveni of Uganda and Paul Kagame of Rwanda.

Silence is no more an option. Africans and their friends across the world, please Don’t Be Blind This Time. We cannot continue blaming the rest of the humanity for our misfortunes.

There is no human being which is worthier than any other. As I write these lines, I just finished reading about 230 teenage girls kidnapped by Boko Haran in Nigeria and their case is being strongly advocated about across the country and even in the big Nigerian Diaspora.

Expulsions of DR-Congolese from Brazzaville are another humanitarian situation being talked about and acted upon among the Congolese community in different places. Protests are being organized against the inhumane treatment of those being sent home.

However these two stories are comparatively insignificant when one looks at the atrocities today considered as genocides by knowledgeable observers and in some cases by UN experts. Wide scale humanitarian scandals have been going on for almost more than two decades in the Great Lakes region, mainly in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda. More than 8 million people have died so far and are today considered by their murders and sponsors of these ones as if they haven’t existed.

In order to raise awareness, through what we have themed Dying in the Great Lakes event, the citizen organization Don’t Be Blind This Time in partnership with others interested or concerned by the prevailing situation in that part of the world, started staging public demonstrations demanding that our dead be honored as they should. Their victim-hood should not remain indefinitely ignored.

Museveni and Kagame and their partners in crimes must be called in front a tribunal to face justice. They directly and indirectly caused the death of more than a holocaust like population of Congolese. Also more than 300,000 Hutu refugees were killed in the Congolese forests. More than 500,000 Hutu and Tutsi were massacred in Rwanda. In Uganda it was a similar story a few years before. But in the whole region, crimes were committed and facilitated by the two presidents..
And on April 07th, 2014 Museveni had the guts to claim publicly that his criminal network had annihilated his enemies.

“…patriotic forces … defeated the traitors with their external backers … We are now much stronger in every sense of the word, politically, militarily, socially and economically.”

According to the Ugandan president, all those genocides against civilian populations were necessary to guarantee him and his keen criminals to have the power they have today. Criminals should not be let to be comfortable in their crimes.

Public events Don’t Be Blind This Time undertakes for raising awareness about these atrocities started in London last year. On May 10th, it will be the turn of Madrid in Spain. Those who can attend and care for our common humanity are invited.
