Bread Poha / Bread Upma

A very tasty Indian snack which can be made in a jiffy. It can be prepared with left over bread or a day old bread. Its very easy to cook and those who don't like Upma, will love it too. Here we go....

Serves : 1
Preparation time : 10 mins
Cooking time : 10 mins

Ingredients :

Bread (Brown or white) : 5-6 slices. 

Capsicum (diced in small cubes) : 1 medium
Tomato (diced in small cubes) : 1 medium
Onion (Finely chopped) : 1 small
Green chilli (Finely chopped) : 1 small
Ghee or butter : 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds : 1/4 tsp
Tomato ketchup : 1 tsp
Green chilli sauce : 1/4 tsp
Sambhar Masala Powder : 1/2 tsp
Salt : to taste
Method :

1. Cut bread into cubes or you can roughly tear them from your hands. Heat 1 tsp of butter or ghee in a pan and saute the bread for about a minute or till its get light golden brown. Keep this aside.

2. Heat the remaining butter in a deep pan or kadhai. Add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add green chillies. Stir them.
3. Add capsicum, onions and tomatoes. Saute them. 

4. Add tomato ketchup, green chilli sauce, sambhar powder and salt. Cook until vegetables are soft.
5. Add bread pieces and gently coat them with the masala. 
6. Garnish it with bhujia or ketchup. 
7. Serve hot. It can be served as a tea time snack also.

Handy Tips :

# To get a South Indian touch I have added the sambhar masala. You can avoid it. I have even cooked without the sambhar masala and it tastes as good as with the masala.
