What does my hubby have to do with food storage? Other than the fact that he bankrolls all of it? He is a great support to me, and he works so very hard. One important part of food storage and self reliance is hard work. That is not to say that if you work hard you will be successful, or if you are not successful you are not a hard worker. My husband has had his successes and failures, but he never quits. He inspires me to work hard and to grow and improve each and every day. It’s very important to have people to inspire us to continue to improve. Not to make us feel inadequate by comparing ourselves with them, but by looking at their positive qualities and feeling inspired to develop new skills and talents through hard work and dedication.
Do you want to know a little bit about him? My husband was born in Vietnam and came to the US near the end of the Vietnam war. His father worked for the US government and was able to get his family out early provided he stayed until he was given the order to leave. My father-in-law was on one of the last helicopters out of Vietnam when Saigon fell. Their family was reunited and moved to the Washington D.C. area. His parents worked very hard and were able to enjoy the American dream: they bought and paid off a modest home, raised their children, and saw their children marry and have children of their own, living happy and productive lives.

He finished his education and was able to find work in the film industry as a computer modeler, working on films such as George of the Jungle, Batman and Robin, and Bicentennial Man. John really wanted to work as an animator and realized his dream. He has worked as an animator on dozens of films and enjoyed the privilege of working as the CG Supervisor for Curious George. He’s even on the DVD in the extras section (where they talk about the truck in the film). See his filmography on imdb here or his website with his demo reel here.
Currently, he works for Disney Interactive as an animator. In his spare time, he teaches for Animation Mentor and develops his own iPhone and iPad apps. Our kids, family, and friends love them. Here are a few I particularly like (these are free):

Finally, my favorite time waster, 2048 + More. This game seems simple, and it is. It’s a great way to pass the time when I’m sitting in a waiting room or waiting for my pictures to upload to my blog. Click here to see it.
He also volunteers his time at church in a leadership position supporting the Bishop in our congregation. He is going, going, going all the time! Yet, I never feel he doesn’t have time for me. He still gives me and our boys love, time, and attention. We have a date night every Friday night. Life is good. Busy, but very good.
So, why am I telling you all this? Life is multi-faceted and rich, and working hard is an important part of being happy and being prepared. If I or my husband or my children or anyone don’t know how to work hard, we’re going to have serious problems in an emergency. And it doesn’t matter what kind of emergency that is. Hard work is required to thrive. It is an important principle which brings happiness no matter what our situation in life.
