Woman of the Mists is a historical romance novel. The story revolves around a woman named Teeka who is of the Tegesta tribe. She is in love with Auro who is the Shaman's son. Auro is from a family of Shaman's considered as of "pure blood" and is destined to follow in his father's footsteps.

When the brave men of the Tegesta tribe had to go hunt, the women were left to tend to their village along with the very young and the very old. It was during that time when Kaho, the leader of a bigger tribe had come demanding that he be allowed to choose a bride. Kaho decides on Teeka and he will come back to take her away with him.

After the hunters come back to their village, Auro decides to get help from the "spirits" so that Teeka's love will remain with him forever. Auro's father tries to stop him and convince him that he is being selfish and will only invite the dark spirits which will indeed help him but at a price. Auro is insistent and created a pair of necklaces. He wears one and gives one to Teeka. Kaho then comes to take Teeka away.

Teeka is planning to escape and go back to Auro. But will fate and the spirits allow her to do so?

Woman of the Mists is an interesting read. It is about a people who inhabited the Americas before Columbus arrived. It is about a people who lived simply -- getting from nature only what they needed to survive. They believed in the power of spirits and selflessness. When hunters hunted, their catch or kill is distributed so the whole tribe. Almost everything is communal. The tribe's Shaman is the man who helps provide medical aid and communicates with the spirits. The author makes it all very interesting.

A good read though I wish there was more connection between the archaeologists and the story of Teeka. I find it rather weird to be reading about an archaeologist finding an artifact and Teeka's sudden entrance into the story and somehow the archaeologist just gets buried and disappears. If it was all some sort of flashback, it needs something more that will reflect that.
