Review:
When I started reading the first page of this story, I can’t help but get excited because I think I am loving the sound of it. And when I found out that it’s going to be a fantasy story, I can’t stop my grin.
The idea of this stubborn, strong-willed, badass, yet unassuming kind hearted little girl who got lost to fairy tale sounds intriguing. And you bet I’m right!
Well, it’s really true that all good things comes to an end because as soon as I reached the middle part of the story, my enthusiasm started to wan. The story makes it unbearable for me to finish that I even think of just quitting it. But just like Mary Stuart, the main character, I was stubborn enough to finish this story.
The idea sounds promising, but I think the narration was kind of boring, especially for a dialog reader like me. I want to know what’s happening but it’s just too boring to read, so yeah, I skipped a lot of pages in this story. This story has a lot of characters but fortunately for us, the author only given names to those characters that has an important role in this story, so that’s really great.
The twists and turns were quite of hilarious for my taste but I guess it was fine since I was able to finish this story. The words used in this story were quite hard to understand without double tapping the screen for its meaning (I am reading this story using my Kindle), but I had enough so I just let it be.
Mary Stuart, I’m not sure how to perfectly describe her character because she’s quite a heck of a girl. My first impression of her was that she’s stubborn and badass even she’s only a child. And then when I’ve got to read more, I realized how frustrating her character could be too. She just gets angsty all of a sudden that I can’t really quite understand why. But you know what makes me believe in her again? Even with all the stubbornness, she still cares. She went into too much trouble even if she’s facing trouble herself to help someone. Also, her character was very real too. She’s tough and all that I thought she’s fearless, but after she saw in action how the big bad wolf killed a girl, she snapped and was now afraid of him that even if how horrible her life on Earth is, she’s willing to go back just to get away from him.
The ending, I’m not sure if I understood it. It’s just too convenient how she was able to figure that out and killed the wolf by herself. Yep, that’s a total spoiler and I apologize *wink. Also, I think there’s more with the ending.
I really thought I would love this story but was kind of disappointed that I’m not. It’s been two in a row for this week! But surprise, surprise, this one made me write a review and publish it here and that speaks something. So instead of giving it 2 stars, I’m giving it 2.5 for the effort plus, I love the cover. Quite catchy eh?
It was a fine story with a lot of things going on, adventure and suspense but just failed to totally amazed me. I’m not sure if I’ll be interested in checking out other stories from this author, but who knows?
