An abandoned orphanage.

A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow-impossible though it seems-they may still be alive.

OPENING SENTENCE
I had just come to accept that my life would be ordinary when extraordinary things began to happen.

REVIEW
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is brilliant, just brilliant. I loved it. This is one of those rare novels you fall in love with and it stays with you forever. Riggs offers something unique and very original. I loved the peculiar children and how Jacob's life is changed forever when he tries to make sense of his grandfather's dying words. I loved the black and white photographs scattered throughout the novel, real pictures that inspired Riggs and bring the wonderful characters to life. I loved the island where the novel is set. I could image myself living there and getting lost in books and wandering about at night. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is one my favourites of the books I've read this year. I can't wait to read the second book, Hollow City. I'd highly recommend this wonderful book.
