#Blud by @RachelMcKibbens

By Pamelascott

McKibbens's blud is a collection of dark, rhythmic poems interested in the ways in which inherited things―bloodlines, mental illnesses, trauma―affect their inheritors. Revelling in form and sound, McKibbens's writing takes back control, undaunted by the idea of sinking its teeth into the ugliest moments of life, while still believing―and looking for―the good underneath all the bruising.

This is my first time reading the poet. I love discovering new poets. I've been lucky enough to stumble across some great new voices. I thought this was an amazing collection of poetry. The poet has been added to my must read list. The amazing poems in this collection explore the impact, physical and emotional of blood (DNA), mental illness and trauma. I wouldn't say these experiences are exactly universal but will resonate with many. I loved every poem, raw, visceral, emotional and painful to read at times. The best were Poem Written with Sawed-Off Typewriter, Ghost Town, Deeper than Dirt, Salvage, My Eyes in the Time of Apparition and The Last Time.
