#BLACKGIRLMAGIC “GIRLS TRIP” GROSSES $30 MILLION THIS WEEKEND BREAKS R- RATED COMEDY CURSE

Girls Trip won big at the box office weekend, reportedly grossing over $30 million, and breaking the R-Rated comedy curse.

The Universal film drew in an audience that was 79 percent female and 50 percent under the age of 30. Fifty-nine percent of attendees were estimated to be African-American.

It has also been reported by CNN that Girls Trip has broken the R Rated comedy curse, that tripped up a handful of other films like “Baywatch,” “Snatched,” “Rough Night” and “The House.”

Directed by Malcolm Lee, and produced by Will packer, Girls Trip follows 4 best friends, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish, when  they travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival. Along the way, they rekindle their sisterhood and rediscover their wild side by doing enough dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing to make the Big Easy blush.
