Big Cup Little Cup Coffee Review

Posted on the 25 March 2014 by Tejal Hewitt @Tejal_x

With all tweets from Big Cup Little Cup, I thought I would try their compatible Nespresso pods coffee. The website was easy to navigate and ordering process was quick. I went for the £50 option where you can try all the
flavours and total of 200 pods, with the £10 discount code ended costing me £45 in total with shipping. The pods arrived pretty quickly within 3 days, however I must say when ever I order directly thru Nespresso and have the free shipping option (when you order over 200 pods) my coffee arrives the next day.

Here is the complete variety if coffee, they have 8 Little Cup variety and 8 Big Cup variety. All fairly strong coffees – level 7 is the lowest one.

The packaging is rather bulky, they are all individually wrapped in foil wrapping. Which means my current pod storage cube used to hold 50 pods now can only hold about 8. Which isn’t as convenient.

Now my husband and I like different strength of coffee, as the Nespresso pods are coloured individually you can see which one you are having. with the Big Cup Little Cup pods there are 4 different colours of wrapping for 16 types of coffee so you don’t know which one your having?! Which makes it rather confusing. That was a definite down fall in my opinion. Even my Dolce Gusto machine had different pods labelled properly.

The pods them selves fit nicely in the machine, however due to the plastically casing and thin covering they are delicate. I’ve had 1 pod that had been damaged and the coffee granules had falling out. The idea behind the casing is that you empty the coffee out and then stack the cases for recycling in weekly plastics bin however Nespresso have a great collection service for used pods in which they recycle them.

In terms of taste the coffee is rather strong – stronger than the level on the outside in taste. Some of the espresso coffees have a rather bitter taste afterwards too. Overall they are not as smooth tasting – and you unable to distinguish the taste between them.

Overall I would say this coffee does not compare at all with Nespresso. Yes the pods are definitely cheaper by circa £0.10p per pod but you can see and taste the difference in quality as at best I would call it a mediocre coffee. I would give it a 5/10 in both quality and taste.
