Beauty Bases For Asian Skin

4 favorite face bases for Asian skin.
Oh ho, this post has been noted down in my planner for *the* longest time! Beauty bases for Asian skin. As a full disclaimer, I’m writing this post to share my thoughts on bases I’ve tried for myself and that my friends have trialled, bases for skin that is higher in elasticity, of a light/pale olive complexion and with a view of achieving clarified complexions with a translucent, fresh faced glow, coupled with great SPF coverage. In short, a documentation of my quest for ‘my’ perfect base...

Laneige Water Bank BB Cushion SPF50/PA++++

It’s no secret by now that I’m a huge fan of Korean skincare brand, Laneige. I wax lyrical about their cleansers, toners, emulsions, treatments… and now, their BB cushion. I write at length about this particular cushion in a separate post but let me confirm that I still absolutely adore it for a fresher and less wasteful way to give your complexion a medium coverage finish. Fortified with aqua and plentiful SPF ingredients, it nourishes and protects the skin as it goes and I never find it to feel cakey.

Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF42/PA+++

If I could only recommend one beauty base, it’d be this. Missha’s Perfect Cover was the third ever BB cream I ever tried, hailing from South Korea and remaining one of the originals full of nourishing properties as well as great coverage. Perfect Cover is a little ashy-toned but blends in like an absolute dream, providing excellent sun protection and a coveted translucent perfect glow. A tiny dot goes a long way and I typically save this one for ‘occasions’ and evening wear because of its’ great coverage. I find it helps to fade freckles and unify my complexion with prolonged use, too!

Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream - Perfect Fit SPF30/PA++

Now this one has been my go-to face base for more than year. I love its anti-darkening property and buildable coverage, making it ideal for both everyday and occasion wear. For ‘everyday wear’, I blend a dab with the Etude House Face Blur for an illuminated, fresh-faced look and it again offers brilliant sun protection. It blends much more easily than the Missha BB and gives a more natural finish than the translucent finish of Missha’s.

CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation SPF15

I rarely wear foundation - in fact, I have only ever worn a proper foundation for photoshoots, which makes me sound far more fancy and important than I actually am. That being said, the CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua is completely worth its blogger hype, something I discovered after spending an afternoon learning makeup tips from the CHANEL makeup artistry team (complimentary after I bought a CHANEL bag!). It’s light, aqua-based and offers buildable coverage, blending in and not sitting on top of elastic skin. It feels velvet soft once dry and I just blooming loved it.
