Battle of the Concealers: Collection Vs Seventeen

By Bambileigh

‘ello poppet! June seems to be speeding by – I better get to work on my monthly favourites soon! Since Monday’s post (Date Night Outfit & Makeup) went down so well I thought I’d try something different again today, so here I am with my first ever ‘versus’ post including a product that I’m sure is very close to a lot of sleep deprived peoples hearts ;)

Back Story

I’ve been a fan of Collection’s Lasting Perfection concealer and have used it for years. I often try out different brands and formulas but I always come back to Collection; it’s like my eye bag safety blanket. So imagine my horror when I go into my local Superdrug and they don’t have my shade in stock – not even out the back. Obviously I’m sure you can visualise the scene that then unfolded; the desperate hunt for a dupe. Superdrug had nothing to offer but thankfully Boots seemed to have a tube of magical creamy goodness that claimed to work the same miracles – Seventeen’s Stay Time concealer. So let’s get on with the comparison!

Packaging

Both products have quite simular packaging but I haven’t noticed any of the design and information rubbing off of the Seventeen tube so far. The design/font on the Seventeen tube is more creative and therefore more attractive than Collection, so Seventeen wins this round!

Applicator

Both products feature a ‘doe foot’ applicator which are pretty much identical, and they’re the perfect size to precisely apply the product exactly where you want it – so this one’s a tie!

Value

Collection’s retails at £4.19 for an unspecified amount with a product life of 12 months and Seventeen’s retails at £4.49 for 7ml with a product life of 24 months. Even though I’m unsure how much product Collection offers, Seventeen wins simply because of it’s longer life!

Coverage & Staying Power

Collection claims that their concealer lasts for 16 hours which I personally think it does, but it doesn’t last that long without some major creasing. It doesn’t matter how much powder I apply to try and set it, it always creases within three hours and has to be blended out again!
Seventeen’s claims to last for 18 hours which it does – I had it on yesterday for just under 18 hours (it was a long day) and it didn’t budge. And the bonus is that there was no creasing at all! I find the coverage to be the same for both, but Seventeen wins this round as it doesn’t crease!

this

I think it’s quite different to compare the shades as even though they are offering very simular products they are still completely different brands which each offer different shades; for example, Collection offer a ‘Fair’ but Seventeen go one lighter and offer an ‘Extra Fair’ – therefore not really making them comparable.

However, if you take all the other factors into consideration I think Seventeen is the clear winner in this product battle! I’ll be honest and admit that the ‘no creasing’ was the main factor for me, but I know there are some that say they don’t get creasing with Collection, so if you’ve tried both please leave me a comment and let me know which is your winner!
