Basic Won Ton

If you have an exotic palate like mine and feel like having different dishes and especially if you are concern about your health than in my opinion the best place to start is Chinese food. Not only is Chinese food easy to make it is also quite healthy and if you want to substitute your healthy lunch or other meals with something good than I suggest try this basic won ton recipe. Now this is a simple basic won ton, and it is just perfect for health. Usually people say that you need to have the right appetite to have basic won ton but I say you can have any dish at any time of the day. This basic won ton recipe will change that thought forever, try it and let me know what you think about it.

 

Ingredients

  • 10 Chinese mushrooms, small
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 lb Prawns
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar
  • 5 Fresh water chestnuts (OR 7- canned ones)
  • 1 tsp Thin soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp Oyster Sauce
  • 1/2 lb Ground Pork
  • Dash of pepper
  • 1 Green onion, finely chopped 1
  • 1/4 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1 pk Wonton skins
  • 1 sm Egg

Directions

  1. Boil Chinese mushrooms for 10 minutes, rinse, squeeze dry, cut off, and discard stems;
  2. then, chop into very small pieces.
  3. Shell, devein and wash prawns.
  4. Chop into very small pieces Peel and crush water chestnuts with the flat side of the cleaver.
  5. If you don’t have a cleaver, chop the water chestnuts into very fine pieces.
  6. Combine mushrooms, prawns, water chestnuts, Pork and green onion.
  7. Add all other ingredients and mix well.
  8. 1 tsp of filling is used for each won ton.
  9. With one corner of the won ton skin toward you, place 1 tsp of filling about an inch from the corner.
  10. Fold one corner to cover the filling.
  11. Fold once more…about 3/4 inch.
  12. Turn the won ton so that the triangle is toward you.
  13. Dampen the left corner with a little water.
  14. Swing the right corner away from you and place it on top of the dampened left corner.
  15. As you make this fold, simultaneously pull the filling toward you with your middle finger, you  should finish with a little “hat-like” effect.
