You can probably tell from the picture that this is a very well-loved Barry M kohl pencil. I’ve had it for years and bring it out once in a while. It’s not your conventional black eye liner, but that’s why I like it; it can brighten up any day look or make that night look a little bit more mysterious. But is it any good?

Barry M is a brand that I’ve known and trusted for years. I know that I can buy one of their nail polishes and it won’t start chipping straight away, or if I get one of their dazzle dusts I know that it will be highly pigmented and last all day. I also know that what I pay for Barry M products is significantly less than what you would expect to pay for the quality that you get. This makes it one of the best high street brands about.

I think the best word to describe the kohl pencil as is ‘dependable’. It glides on nicely because it’s smooth and doesn’t crumble. It feels soft on the skin too and sharpens without breaking the ‘lead’. The color comes out quite boldly on first application but can be built up and easily smudged for the perfect smokey eyed look. It’s super easy to rub away if you make a mistake, but once dry it will last all day. Although there is a little smudging at the corners of my eyes at the end of the day this is quite easy to rectify with a finger tip. All this for £2.99 and a pencil which will actually last for years really is exceptional value for money.

The only thing I would criticize is that it would be nice to have a cleaner finish with a slightly more bold color on first application. A waterproof version would also be amazing, or even one of those plastic pencils which swivel instead of needing to be sharpened. Otherwise I’m very happy with this eye liner (mine is in shade Navy, 4) and would recommend it to anyone.
