The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has refused send their team to Pakistan in January citing the security concerns.
The BCB earlier this month had made the written commitment with its Pakistani counterpart that their team will tour Pakistan for a short-limited overs series to revive the international cricket in the country which was suspended after the terror attacks on Sri Lankan team bus in March 2009. Eight people including the assistant coach of the visiting team were died in the attack.
Pakistan are since playing most of their home series in United Arab Emirates (UAE).
BCB chief Nazmul Hassan while addressing to a press-conference in Dhaka on Monday said they will only tour Pakistan when the security condition will be improved.
“The ICC minutes have it that we have made an unconditional commitment to tour Pakistan. But there is concern among us about the country’s security situation, it has deteriorated. We don’t think it will be wise to visit Pakistan at this time,” Hassan said.
“We have sent them [the PCB] a letter three days ago, telling them of our stance. We will again contact them when their security situation improves. And we will go in the future, because we are committed to go there.”
The bargaining chip in the latest deal between the two boards was the participation of Pakistani players in the second edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), starting from January, but after Bangladesh’s refusal to tour Pakistan, the PCB could bar its players for partaking in the lucrative T20 league.
It is worth mentioning that several Pakistani players including Imran Nazir, Umar Gul, Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Sami, Shoaib Malik, and Wahab Riaz were brought in BPL auction on December 20.
“We know the consequences, they may not want to send their players to the Bangladesh Premier League and our Dhaka leagues. They will probably not want to help us or support us,” said Hassan.
BCB earlier had promised to send their team to Pakistan in April 2012. In this regard Mustafa Kamal-led delegation had also toured the country to check out the security arrangements in the country but later postponed the tour after the Dhaka High Court given the verdict against it in wake of players’ reservations.
