Baking --Whole Wheat ,Oats and Pistachio Bread with a Sprinkle of Garlic Scapes
By Shalinidigvijay @shalinidigvijayBread and butter is the ultimate comfort food in my home. I just turn around and contaminate it and make it healthy. No sir, we don't serve white bread here...This sandwich was breakfast. Lettuce and tomatoes are from the backyard. The cheese and butter and schezwan sauce is from a bottle...And the pista/pistachios are baked in the bread.
Proof...they cut into such pretty pics...
There is so much goodness and health in each slice that it is disgusting. According to sweet child...healthy is not really normal.
Check the crumb?
Almost perfect. There are days when you want to attack the dough and the bacteria that make it rise and then there are days when you just don't want to enter the kitchen. Lets face it ,the best a woman can hear is "Lets eat out" and then there are days when you don't want to get off your chair. The books beckon ,at times the pretty people on television need your attention.
What do you do then?
Well ,apps like foodpanda come to the rescue. With the restaurant links to order anything your heart desires.
Food panda allows you to bypass human error and atrocious accents- Those that will probably add extra peas to your pizza instead of extra cheese. Horror of horrors ,you'll end up picking peas off your junk food. Take my advice, use the foodpanda app or website to order your dinner- Mr Panda will ensure that the correct order is placed and the restaurant directed to deliver your meal with some discounted offers too. It even works in a tiny city like Jalandhar.Who doesn't enjoy the unexpected bonus to a meal.
For the
Baking -Whole Wheat ,Oats and Pistachio Bread with a sprinkle of garlic scapes
You need
1 cup ground oats -Use a dry grinder or coffee grinder
1 cup whole wheat flour or atta
2 cups all purpose flour or maida
1 tbsp fresh bakers Yeast or 2 tsp active yeast
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
2 fists full shelled pistachios
2 tbsp olive or canola oil
2-3 scapes fresh green garlic (optional)
Start with the chopped garlic. Sweat it out in the oil on low heat. We want them to almost dissolve. Cool.
Place the three flours ,salt ,sugar and yeast in a big bowl.
Knead with warm water for 5 odd minutes.
Pop in the cooled garlic ,oil and all and the pistachios.
Knead to keep it all iN.
Set aside in a warm place to double. I placed the covered bowl in my oven after I preheated it to 50°C and turned it off.
After about an hour the dough doubles.
knock out the air from the dough and shape it to fit your bread tin. I bought a new one...My old tin was was battered and worne.
I greased the tin and placed the dough and covered it.
It needs to be Left aside till the dough doubles.
preheat the oven to 200°C and brush your bread with milk and sprinkle some oats just to make it look prettier and pop into the middle of the oven to bake.
After 35 to 40 minutes, the bread would be done.
Knock on the bread ,and if you get a hollow sound.
This is almost like a little superstitious talisman. When I knock the bread is awesome.
So now its almost like asking the bread if it is ready to come out of the oven.
Once you hear the hollow sound you know that its done.
Pop out of the tin and allow it to cool. Once cooled ,store in a bread box and slice and use as and when needed.
My lettuce patch is blossoming and unlike the wicked witch from Rapunzel ,I share.
This makes for a very filling snack. Low fat and low GI ,the bread is quiet handy and tastes great bare and butterless too. Personally ,I am a big fan of cheese.
So ,I love my bread and cheese.
Try a loaf of home made bread. It tastes great , is healthy and your house will smell all warm and amazingly welcoming.
So what are you baking today???
