Arkells are coming back to Toronto this summer for a Rally Cry Summer Night, and fans from the GTA and beyond should be excited.
The newly minted Juno's Group of the Year will make their return to the Budweiser Stage on June 22, bringing along Judah & The Lion and Bonjay, and have promised a Legendary Soul Revue performance as well. The show comes two days shy of the two year anniversary of their last extravaganza at the amphitheatre by the lake, and one day short of the anniversary of The Rally, which took over Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton last summer. If nothing else, these boys are consistent.
If you're wondering what to expect in the setlist, we'd suggest hitting play (and then hitting repeat) on the 2019 Rock Album of the Year, Rally Cry. And then move backwards through Morning Report, High Noon, Michigan Left, and Jackson Square. There's a really strong chance that you're going to hear something from the entirety of their career so far.
Fans of the group that saw them live at Bud Stage or at The Rally know that this is going to be a can't miss show. And if you weren't there, hit play on these two videos for just the smallest taste of what you're going to get.
In an email sent out on Tuesday, Arkells addressed that very point, and that of the Soul Revue saying, "We'll be performing all our fave Arkells jams, and a super rare SOUL REVUE to cap off the night. What's a Soul Revue? Every once in a while when we feel like we really need to boogie, we'll dig in to our fave Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, The Temptations tunes. Hell we might even get a Beyonce tune. These songs offer so much love and joy, and in the spirit of community and DANCING, now is the time to play 'em."
If all of that doesn't get you excited for the show, I don't know what to tell you.
