At the world championships, Ariarne Titmus achieved an impressive feat, reclaiming her 400m freestyle world record and clinching the gold medal with a commanding display. Her performance left rivals Katie Ledecky and Summer McIntosh trailing behind in her wake.

Titmus showcased her exceptional talent, completing the race with an impressive time of 3 minutes and 55.38 seconds, effectively wresting back the record that had been taken from her by McIntosh in March earlier this year.

Ledecky showcased her tenacity, finishing in second place with a time of 3:58.73, while McIntosh experienced disappointment, securing fourth place. The third position was earned by Erika Fairweather from New Zealand, who finished with a time of 3:59.59.

The race, highly anticipated at the world championships’ opening night in Fukuoka, Japan, featured a captivating showdown between Olympic champion Titmus, world record-holder McIntosh, and defending world champion Ledecky. However, Titmus led the race from the outset, surpassing McIntosh’s previous record of 3:56.08.

Before the race, Titmus added an element of intrigue by questioning McIntosh’s ability to handle the pressure of such a significant event.

In the morning heats, Ledecky had set the standard with her impressive performance, claiming the fastest time ahead of Titmus and McIntosh. Her pursuit of further world titles, already standing at 19, a record for women, showcased her unwavering ambition.
