Argentine Sides Advance in Copa Lib

Vélez Sarsfield practiced at the Ezeiza complex in order to get a feel, while Boca had a day or so to get used to the pitch at the Engenhão in Rio.

Their respective preparations were good enough to help them both advanced into the next round of the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday. Vélez and Boca defeated Chivas and Fluminense respectively by the identincal score of 2-0.

Vélez made the trip to Guadalajara and played a rather pedestrian match against the Mexican powerhouse. That would be all they needed as they did pretty much whatever they wanted against a wounded Sacred Flock that were coming off a huge loss to archrivals Club América at the weekend.

Vélez would score the first goal in the 71st minute with a great finish off a counter by Augusto Fernández. Despite some threatening attacks by Chivas towards the end of the match, where they even had a chance to equalize, El Fortín quashed all hopes for a comeback in the 90th minute when Lucas Pratto scored the second goal off a counterattack and virtually killed off Chivas’ slim chances to advance to the next round.
