Seeking women ages 18–32 to participate in a study on ethics and morality. Generous compensation. Anonymity guaranteed.

When Jessica Farris signs up for a psychology study conducted by the mysterious Dr. Shields, she thinks all she’ll have to do is answer a few questions, collect her money, and leave. But as the questions grow more and more intense and invasive and the sessions become outings where Jess is told what to wear and how to act, she begins to feel as though Dr. Shields may know what she’s thinking…and what she’s hiding. As Jess’s paranoia grows, it becomes clear that she can no longer trust what in her life is real, and what is one of Dr. Shields’ manipulative experiments. Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.

Back in June of 2018, I read The Wife Between Us (see review HERE) and it was a pretty awesome book. I thought for sure this book, An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen was going to be amazing as well! I saw the book all over social media well before it’s release date (which is January of 2019), so I knew more of the details than I usually know about books before I see them in the store, so I jumped at the opportunity when I saw the book on NetGalley.

You’re Invited: Seeking women aged 18-32 to participate in a study on ethics and morality conducted by a preeminent NYC psychiatrist. Generous compensation. Anonymity guaranteed. Call for more details.

Almost every review I saw said you should go into this book “blind” without reading spoilers, etc.  It’s going to be super hard to write this review without giving anything away…….

Twenty-eight year old Jessica sneaks her way into a study on morality and ethics in the hopes of earning “generous compensation”. Because the study is anonymous, Jessica is assigned the name of Subject 52.  As a part of the study, the questions are posed at a computer terminal for Jessica to answer. As she goes through the process of answering the questions, Jessica doesn’t even realize that she’s the only subject left in the study based upon her intriguing (and unsettling) answers.

This is a crazy and fast-paced story with heart-stopping twists and turns. I read this book in two days and could barely put it down to go to work! It’s a riveting psychological suspense that caused me to question every move made by every character – beginning to end!

An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen Greer Hendricks is the co-author of the blockbuster New York Times bestseller, The Wife Between Us and the forthcoming An Anonymous Girl. Prior to becoming a novelist, she obtained her master’s in journalism from Columbia University and spent two decades as an editor at Simon & Schuster. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, Allure Magazine and Publishers Weekly. She lives in Manhattan with her husband and two children.

An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen Sarah Pekkanen is the mother of three boys, which explains why she wrote part of her debut novel at Chuck E. Cheese. Seriously. Sarah penned her first book, Miscellaneous Tales and Poems, at the age of 10. When publishers failed to jump upon this literary masterpiece (hey, all the poems rhymed!) Sarah followed up by sending them a sternly-worded letter on Raggedy Ann stationery. Sarah still has that letter, and carries it to New York every time she has meetings with her publisher, as a reminder that dreams do come true.  Please visit www.sarahpekkanen.com.

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen for providing me with an advanced reader digital copy of this book to read and review.
