Alert the Media! The 4 Most Useful Fleetmatics Alerts

Posted on the 30 August 2013 by Fleetmatics @fleetmatics

One of the most notable advantages of employing a real-time GPS fleet tracking solution for your business fleet is that you can be alerted immediately if something is amiss. Fleetmatics offers a slew of alerting options that can help you identify wasteful practices within your fleet. Be immediately notified when vehicles are operating outside of work hours, traveling outside of designated areas, or recklessly speeding while on the job.

Here are 4 of our most useful alerts:

Vehicle Activity Alert

This alert lets you know when a vehicle is started up during a specific timeframe. Say your vehicles are meant to stay at a location at all times during  night, for example from closing time at 5 PM until 6 AM the next morning. Set the alert to notify you between these times, so you know immediately that something is wrong if a vehicle starts up and moves during the night. This can help prevent theft and if something is stolen, increase the chances of recovery.

Points of Interest Alert

The POI Alert helps keep your drivers either in or away from a specific location. For instance, if you have a vehicle that services a specific area, you can draw a geofence border around the area. Then, set an alert to notify you when the vehicle exits this area for any reason. This can help keep your drivers focused on the job at hand and deter them from embarking on any side jobs. Similarly, set geofences around areas your drivers are prohibited from entering (i.e. , the local pub). Then, be notified when they have entered the area.

Speeding Alert

The Speeding Alert is meant to increase both safety measures and fuel economy. Speeding is a danger to your driver, your cargo, and the general public. Pair the looming threat of a costly accident with lowered fuel efficiency, and speeding becomes a menace to your business. Be alerted any time your vehicles exceed a speeding threshold so you can address and improve driver behavior on the spot. This alert also is able to notify you when a vehicle exceeds a Posted Speed value marked on the road.

Idling Alert

Idling is another killer of fuel efficiency. Just one hour of idling can waste as much as one gallon of gas. Of course, to expect 0 minutes of idling from your crew is unrealistic. Fleetmatics allows you to set an idling threshold and be notified when a vehicle exceeds that threshold.

Fleetmatics makes it easy to stay on top of your fleet activity even when you are away from the office. These alerts can be either emailed or texted directly to your mobile phone. Additionally, you can track alert activity in our Fleetmatics Mobile App for iOS and Android devices. Do you use Fleetmatics alerts? Please share in the comments.
