Intruder shot dead by homeowner in Enumclaw

KOMO: An intruder was shot to death by a homeowner Monday afternoon in Enumclaw (WA) , and deputies are looking for a second person who got away.

King County sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindi West said the shooting happened just after 1 p.m. at a home in the 48100 block of 323rd Ave SE.

The homeowner told deputies he and his wife returned home Monday afternoon and found two intruders in their house. He grabbed a shotgun and shot one of the intruders. The 50-year-old later died at the scene.

The homeowner may have hit the second intruder as well, but that man was able to get away in the homeowner’s gray 2002 Ford Explorer with Washington license 249-ZCL, West said. She said the SUV’s passenger window was shot out by the homeowner.

Neighbor North Heath said that although his home has been robbed in the past, he didn’t think robberies were common in the remote area of Enumclaw. He also said most people in the neighborhood own and carry guns because the area is so remote.

Update: The second intruder has been caught. The sheriff’s office tweeted the suspect was arrested early Tuesday, just after midnight. The stolen SUV was also recovered.

Happy ending! One less criminal on the streets, the second in custody, and the vehicle recovered. Score one for the Second Amendment!
