Advance Notification of Site Maintenance and Possible Downtimes

Posted on the 05 August 2011 by Bonsoni.com @bonsoni

In a nutshell:

As part of our ongoing improvements of the Bonsoni site, our hosting company will be conducting maintenance during the following period and we are expecting some downtimes (hopefully they will be less than 5 minutes at a time)

Start:   2nd of August at 23:15
Finish:  3rd of August at 00:45

Please be aware that all times stated are British Summer Time (UTC+1)

For geeks and nosy ones:

As part of the improvements, a number of the network switches that we use to provide connectivity to servers within our network are in-need of upgrades to their firmware. In many cases these switches have not been rebooted since they were first installed (a number of years ago) and there is now a long list of fixes & features that need to be applied.

Earlier this year we were forced to apply the same update to switches with older firmware releases, during an emergency. This went very well and we now wish to roll the same firmware release out to all of the remaining switches, in order to ensure that our services all benefit from the same reliability & security.

We intend to conduct this maintenance during the following period:

Start: 2nd of August at 23:15

Finish: 3rd of August at 00:45

Please be aware that all times stated are BST/UTC+1. Switch upgrades will be performed one at a time and the expected downtime will be less than 5 minutes per switch. In the case of total failure resulting from the upgrade we do have spare, pre-upgraded hardware on-site which will be ready to swap-in at a moments notice.
