DCI Helen Lavery returns from injury leave and is immediately plunged into an investigation like no other. Is this a random attack or is someone targeting the force? Organised crime groups or a lone killer?

As the net draws in, Helen finds the truth lies closer than she could have imagined, and trusts no one.

But Helen is facing a twisted killer who will stop at nothing to ensure their secrets remain hidden. And time is running out.

I need to read the other DCI Helen Lavery books immediately. A Deathly Silence is the sort of thriller I enjoy the most; well written, compelling characters, fast paced, packed with twists and turns and misdirection. This is a book that fairly rattles along. I found myself speeding through the pages because I wanted to know where all of the story threads were leading and what the next twist would be. Helen's investigation seemed to lead in numerous different directions and it was never clear what direction would lead them to the correct answers. I love it when an author lead's me down the garden path. When Helen gradually discovers what path is the right one to follow and what really happened to Sinead I didn't see it coming. A Deathly Silence has all the makings of a great thriller but it's an incredibly sad book as well.
