I love to eat the recipes in which ripe mangoes are used. Whenever I am back home for summer vacations I love to have aamras or mango milkshakes.

Benefits of mangoes:

Mangoes are nutritious in many ways. The health benefits of mangoes are as follows.

  • High level of Vitamin C
  • Good source of amino acid, calcium, magnesium, iron and potassium
  • Contain vitamin A and E which are good for the eyes
  • Rich in vitamin B-6 which helps in brain functioning
  • Helps in digestion process

Aamras or amras recipe:

Aamras Amras is pureed thick mango pulp or mango puree. It is a popular sweet dish of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Aamras is apt for babies of 8 months and above. Any type of mangoes can be taken to prepare aamras but mostly alphonso or kesar type mangoes are used.

Aamras can be prepared using only mangoes or you can also add dry fruits for flavor. Aamras can be eaten as a side dish or after a meal.

In Maharashtra cardamom powder (elaichi) is used, while in Gujarat dry ginger powder(saunth) is used. I prefer using elaichi powder with dry fruits for flavor.

If the mangoes are a little tangy, you can add either sugar or jaggery. I prefer adding jaggery considering its health benefits.
