A Sport Fan's Guide to San Francisco

By Livingthedreamrtw @livingdreamrtw
A Sport Fan's Guide to San Francisco The US loves its sports, and if you do too then you definitely need to make time to see a game or two during your next holiday there. If you're off to San Francisco you'll be able to watch some great teams play on their home turf - and today I'm going to clue you in to some of the top ones to see, and where you'll find them.
In terms of how to organize your break around checking out a few games and stadiums, that is, of course, up to you - but it pays to make sure you book tickets to any events you're particularly keen on seeing well in advance. If you're planning to sort out your accommodation in San Francisco first and then pick games to go to, try to at least research key venues before booking and work out how long/how easy it is to get from your chosen hotel to each.  (Photo "The Golden Gate Bridge" by walker_M)
Now, let's take a quick look at teams and grounds worth seeing.
San Francisco Giants/AT&T Park
Sport: Baseball
The San Francisco Giants are one of the city's best sports teams and so should definitely be high on your list. Not only are they one of the oldest baseball teams around (having been going since the 1880s), but they've also won the most games of any baseball team - ever. Pretty impressive stuff!
They play at AT&T Park, which is at the Willie Mays Plaza. As well as catching a game here you can take a tour of the grounds, which gives you a chance to slip behind the scenes and experience what it's like to stand in the press box, and check out places such as the dugout and the visitors' indoor batting cage.
Golden State Warriors/Oracle Arena

Sport: Basketball

Moving on to basketball next, the Golden State Warriors are the team to see. They've been going since the 1960s and call the Oracle Arena home - it's worth remembering that if you head to their website you can get discounts on single games by booking early.
What's particularly interesting about the Warriors is that they're one of just three charter members of the National Basketball Association still running today - which is one of the reasons they're such a great team to see.
San Francisco 49ers
Sport: American football
Fancy seeing some American football? Then the San Francisco 49ers are the team to watch. They're actually the city's first major league professional sports franchise to be permanently based here - and that's not their only claim to fame.
You see, the team has yet more firsts under its belt, including the fact that it has taken home five Super Bowl trophies - the first NFL team to do so. You'll find them at Candlestick Park.
San Francisco Bulls
Sport: Ice hockey
Last up we have a spot of ice hockey. This sport is amazing to watch, and you can catch a white-knuckle match featuring the San Francisco Bulls at the Cow Palace (which has been their home since the 2012-13 season).
Tickets to Bulls games are reasonably priced, which means they're also a good option if you're keen to rein in your spending while still seeing some absolutely brilliant sporting action. Unlike the rest of the teams on our list, the Bulls are a minor professional team - but you can still expect some seriously thrilling games!
