As a book reviewer for The Fiction Guild, I often have occasion to receive and review books about the Amish. While this isn’t my personal genre of preference, it is the favorite of my mom, Gloria. She just can’t seem to get enough of Amish stories so I never say no!
The Fiction Guild sent me A Love Made New by Kathleen Fuller and when I called my mom, she said she couldn’t wait. Now that she’s read the book, here’s what Gloria had to say:
“This is book three in the Amish of Birch Creek series. Having read the first two I was already acquainted with several of the characters in this story and knew the backstory. Reading this wonderful book you are drawn into their homes and businesses and feel you are their friend living alongside them.
In this book the characters are several women with strong faith that takes us to multiple stories occurring at the same time. As I read their emotional journey I realized that they had courage, wisdom, patience, and their faith to help them along the way.
Abigail Schrock sisters are married now but when Abigail returns to Birch Creek from taking care of her sister her boyfriend Joel breaks up with her. She is twenty pounds heavier, is this his reason? Has he cheated with a thinner girl while she was gone?
Asa Bontrager moved back to Birch Creek after listening to God’s voice telling him to do so. He is rekindling friendships from his younger days but is very lonely without his family.
Can this handsome man be interested in Abigail or is it pity?
This book is a great conclusion to the Birch Creek series and has lessons teaching us faith and patience scattered throughout. I enjoyed reading the series of books very much.”
Who is Kathleen Fuller? Here’s what she says: “Just the facts…I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, and now make my home in beautiful Geneva, Ohio. I’ve been married to James for 15 wonderful years (really, they have been wonderful!) We have three terrific children, three dogs, and an overwhelmed cat. We have also raised cattle, pigs, and chickens at various times over the years. We would have gone into the goat business, but I had to draw the line somewhere. I started writing in 2000, and published my first short story a year later.
Since then I have authored several short stories, novellas, novels, and have done a lot of freelance non-fiction work. I have also worked as an editor. I have a Masters degree in Special Education, emphasis on teaching the blind and visually impaired, and a Bachelors in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. I have taught all age groups ranging from age 4 to age 18. A few of my favorite things: my relationship with Christ, chocolate (of course!), autumn, a satisfying book, good friends, a sense of humor, people who don’t take themselves seriously, haunting melodies, NFL football, and did I mention chocolate?”
