A Life Well Lived

By Winyeemichelle
Lately I’ve been spending a lot of time writing and rewriting posts only to eventually end up scrapping them completely. And I think that’s completely normal as a blogger. Not everything we produce will ultimately be perfect or ready to publish by your personal standards. But I remember when I was once more excited than anything to return home from University, make a cup of tea, slip into my slippers packed from home, open up the lid of my laptop and spill thoughts purely and honestly, raw and unedited, to this very blog. I’d then log out of Blogger, continue on with my day, spill some drops of tea on the grimy dark blue carpet, take a photo of myself via the webcam of my laptop for tomorrow’s post and get on with my evening without deliberately telling a soul what my plans were. (Hint: It was often lazing around on my best friend and housemate’s bed with another cuppa and a pack of Oreos, whilst our cat flipped her desktop screen upside down.)
It’s been said over and over again that “the blogging world has changed~*”. Yes, yes it has. Of course it has. It’s been almost 8 years since I began writing Daisybutter and easily more than 11 since I first discovered Fashiontoast and Style Scrapbook. Like with anything on this globe, things change and expand and grow. I couldn’t be more happy and proud to see some of the OG blogging ladies blossom in their new careers and to see so many awesome friendships grow out of the community. It was inevitable for us MySpace girls, eh?
I often feel like I’ve been completely wayside in the blogging world. Fellow bloggers that I once counted as good friends are full-time blogging girl bosses and Internet mavericks, whilst I struggle to find my footing nowadays. In my heart of hearts, I know that this is all an ultimate first world, millennial problem, but it’s odd to confidently forge a path in the blogging community that doesn’t seem to align with others’. I like my blog to maintain an air of realness, a place that I and my readers can check into almost-daily to hang out and catch up. Sometimes my friends and I have long and semi-deep chats into the evening and others we literally just gossip and paint our nails together and recommend each other new brands. That’s what my blog is. I’ve never pigeonholed myself into one category although arguably fashion is my weakness. Shopping is my weakness. Would I personally suddenly do a 180° because everybody else was doing something? No, because my friends would be like, ‘what the hell Michelle’, haha. I suppose the point I’m making is that I’m trying (and not trying at the same time) to keep my blog real and well-lived.
I never stage things for the ‘gram, although I might tweak a few objects here and there! I never hop on the bandwagon because I’m ridiculously stubborn. I moan aplenty, but who doesn’t? I don’t buy seven new outfits a week ready for the next week and the week after that. I bloody love wearing jeans at the moment. Sometimes on holiday, I don’t take photos of my legs by the beach or of my cocktail, because I’m on bloody holiday. I only ever seem to InstaStory when I’m at home but that’s because when I’m out, I’m living in that moment and not one that’s filtered and Boomerang’d.
I hope you can understand that whilst Daisybutter is a white, marble and whatever other aesthetic-is-popular wonderland, it’s a pretty wonderful land to me. And I hope that you don’t mind that these pages spill over with scribbled nonsensicals from all sorts of ‘categories’ because I certainly don’t fit into any category. I hope that this blog genuinely showcases a life well-lived, because I’m so content with real life lately.
