A Head Full Of Ghosts

By Pamelascott

A Head Full Of GhostsThe lives of the Barrett's, a suburban New England family, are torn apart when fourteen-year-old Marjorie begins to display signs of acute schizophrenia. To her parents' despair, the doctors are unable to halt Marjorie's descent into madness. As their stable home devolves into a house of horrors, they reluctantly turn to a local Catholic priest for help, and soon find themselves the unwitting stars of The Possession, a hit reality television show.

I read this for 2017 Popsugar Reading Challenge. The category is 'a book recommended by an author you love. This was recommended by Stephen King.

This is my first time reading the author.

I really don't know what to make of this book.

I wanted to read it because of a quote by Stephen King on the cover indicating it scared the hell out of him. If something scares Stephen King you bet I want to be all over that.

Unfortunately, I wasn't all that impressed.

Some things worked really well:

I liked the start, when things are creepy and disquieting and I had no idea what the hell was going on. I loved the ending. It took me by surprise and I never saw it coming. It reminded me of the amazing book by Shirley Jackson, We Have Always Lived in The Castle.

I just felt the middle of the book didn't work at all. I couldn't connect with the characters and didn't care what happened to them. Even the excellent ending couldn't redeem my lacklustre impression.
