It’s no secret that we’re animals lovers here at TheConstantRambler. We dedicate much of our time enjoying nature, and love nothing more than taking photographs of wildlife, even when they’re not in the wild. When we found ourselves looking for some thing to do while in Pittsburgh the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium was a natural choice.
Home to over 400 species, the Pittsburgh Zoo is a fun and educational way to spend a day in Pittsburgh, PA. One of our favorite things to do is pack a lunch, find a shady bench, and watch some happy animals, or in this case, nappy animals. This red panda at the Pittsburgh Zoo seems to have not a care in the world.

The zoo, while not one of your larger zoos, had pretty large habitats for their animals. Everyone was out and about and seemed content. It was a pretty hot day and all of the animals seemed to have one thing on their minds…sleep. This guy was sleeping with complete reckless abandon. I just wanted to cuddle with him.

On this hot day, the polar bear just wanted to go for a swim. Here he is ready to jump into his pool. I can only assume that he had his nap scheduled for after the swim.

The elephants at the Pittsburgh Zoo were content standing under the shade of these trees and throwing mud on themselves to cool down.

Llamas are known to spit and have a pretty nasty temper, but not this guy. This llama was all smiles when he greeted us and welcomed us into the petting zoo. Seems he was as happy with our visit as we were.

The Pittsburgh Zoo is also home to the PPG Aquarium. It’s a huge indoor facility that is home to a large variety of animals from nearly every water habitat on earth. It’s home to penguins, sting rays, sharks, and tons of different fish species. It’s a pretty spectacular facility and it’s one of the things we loved about our visit. Even this happy little sea urchin seems to love the PPG Aquarium, as is apparent in the little heart he is proudly displaying in this photo.
