A Break in the Lake District: Nutkin Cottage

By Smartgirltravel @SmartGirlTravel

A romantic little break in the Lake District ♥

Everyone’s looking for a little piece of paradise when it comes to searching for somewhere to stay in the gorgeous English Lakes. For me, a break in the Lake District is all about embracing the free things in life; Windermere’s winding, hilly landscape, the vast and mysterious bodies of water, and the breathtaking scenery from the heights of the fells. So searching for a luxury hotel never even crossed my mind.

Nutkin Cottage wasn’t our first choice (this is what happens when your names are Mags and Andrew and you book things too late) but little Nutkin turned out to be the perfect accident.

Set in the convenient location of Bowness-on-Windermere, Nutkin Cottage gave us a small and humble taste of the lovely Lake District. Not too flash and not too shabby either!

Decorated with all the frills of a Beatrix-Potter-esque hideaway, the interiors are a charming surprise within a terraced street.  Nutkin Cottage is a perfect retreat for couples who care only to be in each other’s company.

I served up breakfast whilst Andrew read the papers, then in return he’d make it his job to plan the day’s itinerary for us.  The perfect team (*blush*). There really is nothing more delightful than a break in the Lake District with a loved one, and Nutkin Cottage is the type of getaway just for that.

But don’t worry beer bellies and vino heads, as the terraced street is just walking distance from a few great pubs and restaurants. The night life is quiet in this sleepy little town but with keys to your own cottage, it’s easy to stock up on all the booze you like!  If you’re planning a break to the Lake District in the summer, make sure you swing by the Angel Inn for a great view from the outdoor drinking area.

So you crazy romantics, if you’re looking for somewhere to lay your head, a place to rustle up a home cooked English breakfast, and a nice little home with a roll top bath for your break in the Lake District, give Mrs Frew a call at Forever Lakes.

I never did get to meet her for the key handover, but I imagined her to be a sweet lady who took pride in her property.  And she left a nice gift basket for our arrival too.

Thanks for an amazing stay, Mrs Frew!
