His Excellency President Ranil Wickremesinghe has granted a special pardon to several prisoners, on the occasion of the Vesak full moon poya day. The said pardon is to be granted under Article 34 of the Constitution, as per the powers vested on the Executive President.
Accordingly, 982 male prisoners and 06 female prisoners from prisons around the island will be released. In addition, all prisoners have been granted with a special permission to receive guests, in lieu of the Vesak poya day and visiting will be allowed both today and tomorrow.
