9 Things I LOVE About Christmas

Confession: I’m a bit of a Christmas freak. I know, I haven’t been sharing much of it lately but that’s because I’m going through a love/hate relationship with my phone, that as a blogger I’m attached to. But you’ve not seen much of what I’ve been doing lately because I’ve been keeping it in my pocket more and enjoyed more time with friends, sleeping in (blame the weather) but most of all my activities were Christmas themed. So, hoping you’ll bare with me while I sort out my relationship with my phone (it’s temporary) I’m letting my inner Christmas freak out online as well, starting (what a coincidence!) this Christmas eve. And tell you all about my Christmas obsession.

1. One of my favorite parts of Christmas is decorations. Winter has been gray and rainy, but the Christmas decorations around town totally make up for it and my home as never looked this cozy. Gold glitter snowflakes hanging above my bed, Christmas light, 3 small Christmas trees of which one of them lights up in different colors, candles, ribbons, Christmas hats. It’s all there. Coming home is instant happiness these days.

2. TV! Christmas movies are the merriest there are, and I never skip a chance to watch Elf or the Grinch for the 200th time. What’s your favorite Christmas movie?

3. If my tv isn’t on (also, why isn’t there a Christmas channel yet), my Spotify is, with a big playlist with all my favorite Christmas songs. Playing all day, very loud. Sorry neighbors, but nothing brings Christmas spirit like a little cheer. In my playlist? The classics, of course, but also Justin Bieber, N’Sync, Ariana Grande and Run DMC. Not ashamed at all (seriously!).

4. Christmas themed-everything. You know, all the ‘Christmas flavors’ of our favorite foods – leave your pumpkin spice at home but bring on the truffle potato gratin, deer and cranberry sauce. Also: Christmas scented candles are THE BEST.

5. The food is a reason by itself. I’ve been eating paté, deer-ragout and other Christmas foods all December. Winter foods are my favorite anyway and Christmas (or pre-Christmas) is the perfect time to spoil yourself during dinner time.

6. You didn’t think I’d talk about fashion, right? But during Christmas, to be honest, I don’t care much about fashion. I’m the kind of Christmas-addict walking around with a Christmas hat on, and Christmas socks, and a Christmas sweater, and I even got knitted Christmas leggings this year. That I’ll wear from three days in a row, which started this Christmas eve. U-huh.

7. Christmas brings people together. I deeply respect the Christian meaning of Christmas but don’t have much affinity with it since I’m not a Christian. Nonetheless, Christmas doesn’t only bring people together at church but also at the dinner table. The most wonderful time of year is the one I wouldn’t share with anyone else than my loved ones. That’s why I’m spending it with family tomorrow, and friends on the 2nd day of Christmas. Can’t wait!

8. Gifts! And shopping, because all the windows look pretty and all the stores sell all the things I need to have. But getting gifts is a really good part as well, I got pretty spoiled this Christmas, how about you?

9. Christmas parties! Every Christmas for me starts slow and cozy. After having a great dinner I’m spending Christmas Eve in bed watching movies, the first day of Christmas will be spent in-home with family as well, but after a festive dinner on the 2nd day of Christmas I’ll be dancing like elves with my friends. If you’re in Arnhem, SAYO is the party you don’t want to miss.

So, now you know, I’m a bit of a freak in December. I’ve already managed to drive my boyfriend crazy (and it is only Christmas eve) but I’m loving it.
How are you spending Christmas?
