Does your heart sink whenever you go into your bathroom and see all the tired paintwork, scuffed and tattered cabinets and piles of half-used or nearly-finished toiletries scattered all over the room? The following seven tips, if followed in order, will help to restore your delight in the ‘smallest room’ and will soon have it sparkling and gleaming once again!

1 Declutter

This cannot be emphasized enough! It really does not matter how superb your décor is, if it is piled high with junk and clutter you are not going to achieve the smooth, effortless look that you are hoping for! Make sure that only one bottle of shampoo or conditioner is open at any time and brutally throws away any products that have not been used for a few weeks, rather than leave them to gather dust.

2 Repaint

If the bathroom is beautifully clean and tidy, but still looks dull and dingy, a fresh coat of paint will do wonders! Clean the walls carefully first, to prepare the walls for that fresh paint, but you may find that the thorough cleaning is enough to put the sparkle back into your comfort station!

3 Color Contrast

Buy some cheerful and brightly colored towels to set against a neutral base - or vice versa! A good clean contrast between the towels and the walls adds a depth of interest to your décor and helps to fill the eye nicely.

4 New Shower Curtain?

Examine your shower curtain carefully. These useful drapes are often overlooked, and can slowly acquire a layer of soap residue and even build-up from particulates in the water. If your shower curtain is looking rather grubby, give it a good wash – most modern shower curtains can be washed in a machine – but if the stains remain afterwards, pop out and buy a shiny new one! They are relatively inexpensive and the simple change from old to new will brighten your bathroom up amazingly!

5 Matching Accessories

Invest in a set of matching accessories to use as hand-soap dispenser, soap dish and tooth-brush holder. A pretty matched set will pull the décor together much more effectively than any number of attractive, but mismatched pieces.

6 Up Your Cabinetry!

Think about wall-mounting your cabinet rather than retaining a free-standing floor option. Not only does a wall-mounted cabinet free up your floor-space, but it offers more space both inside the cupboard and in the bathroom, due to the removal of the cabinet back and the gap between the wall and the rear of the piece of furniture.

7 Light up Your Life

If you have done all of the above and your bathroom still does not appeal, consider investing in a new light fitting. Light bulbs and shades accumulate dust and dirt, and sometimes can even discolor with age and the heat from the bulb. Once this happens it is unlikely that your bathroom will look good until this shade is changed.
